When you think about healing PMDD or recovering from trauma, the advice you usually hear is therapy, medication, green juice, meditation, or a long list of to-dos that can feel heavy.
But what if healing could also come from small, everyday rebellions? What if the things that actually shift you aren’t the obvious ones — but the surprising ones?
In this post, I’m sharing 3 things that massively helped me in my PMDD recovery and trauma healing journey — things I didn’t expect, but that changed everything.
The Room isn’t just a book club — it’s where women come together to heal, learn, and rise. Every month we go deeper: books, stories, secrets, shifts.

1. The Angel of Death Gratitude Theory
Sounds dramatic, but this one cracked me wide open.
I started imagining life as if I had already wasted it all — and then been given a second chance. That “second chance” is today.
Instead of forcing myself to write lists of gratitude, I flipped it: if today was a gift I’d been given back, what would I be grateful for? This perspective pulled me out of autopilot and into a new kind of appreciation for my life.

2. Saying “I’ll Never Do That Again”
This was the quiet rebellion that saved me.
I made a list of all the things I was doing just to please others — and decided I’d never do them again.
That looked like:
• Ironing (haven’t done it in 15 years).
• Going to the bathroom with a group of women when I didn’t need to pee.
• Apologising for looking good.
• Pretending I didn’t enjoy sex just to fit in with mums’ groups.
Every “never again” freed up energy and self-respect. Every one was a step out of martyrdom and into my own power.

3. Feeding My Soul With New Ideas
Reading, listening, watching — anything that gave me new ideas became nourishment for my healing.
For me, it was mostly audiobooks. For you, it might be YouTube videos, podcasts, or visual learning. The point is: don’t let yourself go stagnant. Fresh perspectives shake loose old patterns and help you rewrite your story.
Step inside The Room — a private space where we don’t just read books, we shift. Part book club, part secret podcast, part transformation.

🌹 Final Takeaway
Healing isn’t about becoming someone else. It’s about unlearning autopilot behaviours, reclaiming your own rules, and feeding your soul what it really needs.
