Living with PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) can feel like an emotional rollercoaster that no one else quite understands. For years, I felt like I was losing myself every single month — the anxiety, the rage, the deep lows. At times, I didn’t even realise what I was experiencing had a name.
It wasn’t until 2017 that I finally discovered it was PMDD. Even then, the path forward was far from clear. I tried treatments that didn’t work for me, and I often felt like a failure when my body didn’t respond the way I hoped.
Here’s what I know now: PMDD experiences vary greatly between women. There’s no universal “fix.” What helps one woman may not work for another, and that’s not a reflection of your worth or strength.
What Actually Helped Me
• Mindset shifts — Understanding that PMDD wasn’t my fault lifted so much shame.
• Lifestyle changes — Nutrition, movement, and cycle awareness made a big difference in my energy and mood.
• Support systems — Sharing my story and connecting with others made me feel less alone.
• Exploring options — From hormonal treatments to natural supports, experimenting helped me find what worked for me.
Why This Matters
PMDD is complex. It’s tied to hormones, trauma, and emotional well-being in ways that science is only just beginning to understand. But healing doesn’t just come from prescriptions — it also comes from reclaiming our power, embracing our femininity, and refusing to see ourselves as broken.
