For years, I carried the weight of my past—childhood trauma, emotional neglect, and the deep wounds inflicted by a narcissistic mother. I didn’t realize how much my body held onto that pain until I began my healing journey. True healing isn’t just about therapy or mindset shifts; it’s a full-body transformation. In this post, I’m sharing how I’m healing my body, mind, and spirit after years of trauma.
Understanding the Impact of Trauma on the Body When we experience trauma, especially in childhood, our nervous system adapts by staying in a constant state of fight, flight, or freeze. This chronic stress response can lead to:
- Hormonal Imbalances – Cortisol and adrenaline floods can disrupt the menstrual cycle and contribute to PMDD.
- Digestive Issues – The gut-brain connection means trauma can lead to IBS, bloating, and food sensitivities.
- Emotional Dysregulation – Anxiety, depression, and mood swings are often a sign of an overactive nervous system.
The Three Pillars of My Healing Journey
- Healing the Body
- Nervous System Regulation – Breathwork, cold exposure, and somatic exercises have helped me move out of a chronic stress state.
- Holistic Nutrition – I’ve focused on reducing inflammatory foods, increasing gut-healing nutrients, and balancing my hormones naturally.
- Movement & Rest – Instead of punishing my body with intense workouts, I’ve embraced gentle movement like yoga, dance, and intuitive exercise.
- Reprogramming the Mind
- Journaling & Inner Child Work – I’ve started writing letters to my inner child, reassuring her that she is safe and loved.
- Cognitive Reframing – Changing negative thought patterns and replacing them with self-compassion has been a game-changer.
- Therapy & Support Groups – Speaking with others who have gone through similar experiences has made me feel less alone.
- Nurturing the Spirit
- Spiritual Practices – Meditation, visualization, and energy healing have helped me reconnect with my inner power.
- Boundaries & Self-Love – Learning to say no, protecting my energy, and prioritizing my own needs has been liberating.
- Gratitude & Manifestation – Shifting my focus from pain to possibility has helped me create a vision for a future filled with joy and abundance.
Final Thoughts Healing is not linear. Some days I feel like I’ve made huge progress, while other days I struggle. But every small step forward is a victory. If you’re on your own healing journey, know that you are capable of rewriting your story. You are not your trauma—you are your healing.
